If a phone is not getting an IP address follow these steps to troubleshoot:
- Verify the ethernet cable from the network is plugged into the LAN port on the phone.
- If using a wired connection, ensure WiFi is disabled on the device some devices will disable the ethernet ports if WiFi is enabled
- Poly - In the menu, select Basic, scroll to WIFI turn feature Off
- Cisco - In the menu select network, scroll to Wi-Fi Configuration, turn Wi-Fi off.
- Yealink - In the menu, select Basic, scroll and select Wifi, Turn it off
- Nextiva - Press settings, select network, select WLAN, turn WLAN Off.
- Check to see if DHCP is enabled on the phone.
- Poly - Menu -> Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Admin Settings -> Network Configuration -> Network Interfaces -> Ethernet Menu -> IPv4 Configuration -> DHCP -> Enabled
- Nextiva - Settings -> Network -> IP Settings -> IPv4 -> DHCP -> Enable
- Yealink - Menu -> Advanced Settings -> Network -> WAN Port (or Wi-Fi Port if on Wi-Fi) -> IPv4 -> Set Type to DHCP -> Save
If DHCP is Disabled, enable DHCP and reboot the phone, and re-test.
If DHCP is Enabled, proceed to step 4.
- Poly - Menu -> Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Admin Settings -> Network Configuration -> Network Interfaces -> Ethernet Menu -> IPv4 Configuration -> DHCP -> Enabled
- Check to see if a different device gets an IP address when plugged into this spot on the network.
If a different device does get an IP address, try setting a static IP address on the phone and check for registration.
NOTE: When you set a static IP address on the phone, ensure that it is either outside the DHCP range of your DHCP server or the IP address is reserved in the DHCP server for this device. Work with your network administrator to ensure this is done correctly.
If a different device does NOT get an IP address, proceed to step 5.
- Replace the ethernet cable and check for an IP address.
If the device does get an IP check for registration.
If the device does not get an IP proceed to step 6.
- If present, disable LLDP/CDP on the phone.
If the device does get an IP address, check for registration.
If the device does not get an IP address, proceed to step 7.
- Move the phone to be directly connected to the router and check for an IP address.
If the device does get an IP address, there is damage to the original port the phone was plugged into and that will need to be repaired If the device does NOT get an IP address, there may be a block on the network restricting the device from receiving an IP address, if after confirming the network is able to provide an IP address to the device, contact Nextiva Support.
