Use an alternate line for outbound calls

The ATA402 has only 2 FXS ports on the back panel for connecting analog phones, but the ATA can support up to 4 registered users. This gives the analog phones the ability to choose a different outbound user to call from if the primary outbound route is not needed. By default Phone 1 port is bound to User 1 and Phone 2 port is bound to User 2.  To make an outbound call with a non-primary line:

  1. Pick up the phone to get the dial tone.
  2. Dial **n followed by the phone number or extension to reach. For example, to dial Nexitva support from user 3 you would dial **38002857995.
  3. The ATA will dial out from user 3's line.

Using Hook Flash

Hook flash is used with analog phones to control special features that are not natively included in the device.  This includes transferring calls or establishing a conference call.  Some phones may have an actual flash button to press, if not here are two of the more common ways to trigger a hook flash:

For phones that use lift to answer with the handset:

  1. While on a call press the hook key for no more than half a second.
  2. This brief press will cause the ATA to put the caller on hold and open another line for use.

For phones with a digital On/Off or Answer/End key

  1. While on a call press the Answer/End key twice within a half second.
  2. The double press of they key will cause the ATA to put the caller on hold and open another line for use.

Transfer using Hook Flash

Calls can be either warm or blind transferred:

Warm Transfer

  1. While on a call use the hook flash sequence to place the caller on hold and open a new line
  2. Dial out to the number or extension to transfer to.
  3. Speak to the second party and when ready to transfer, simply hang up the phone and the transfer will complete.

Blind Transfer

  1. While on a call use the hook flash sequence to place the caller on hold and open a new line
  2. Dial out to the number or extension to transfer to.
  3. Once you hear ringing, hang up and the transfer will complete.

Conference Call using Hook Flash

  1. While on a call use the hook flash sequence to place the caller on hold and open a new line
  2. Dial the number or extension to conference in.
  3. Once the second party answers the phone do another hook flash to merge the calls together.
