Connect your Poly VVX X50 to WiFi

This article describes WiFi setup on Polycom VVX phones

The Poly OBiWiFi5G wireless adapter allows a USB-equipped Polycom VoIP adapter or VVX phone to connect to the Internet over a Wi-Fi network.

 

Prerequisites

 

  • Have the OBiWiFi5G wireless adapter. Poly devices do not support any other wireless adapter.
     
  • Before setting up a wireless network, make sure that you connect the VVX phone to its power adapter.
     
  • You must be on firmware version 6.0 or higher.
     

 


 

Setup

Note: VVX phones do not support WEP security.

 

  1. Insert the Obi Wi-Fi wireless network adapter (OBiWiFi5G) into the USB port of your VVX phone.
     
  2. The phone's screen prompts A Wi-Fi Dongle is connected. Press Start to begin Wi-Fi setup.
     
  3. Pushing Start will take you directly to the WiFi settings.  If this option does NOT appear navigate to the WiFi settings through the phone menu.
     
    1. Press the Home button to open the menu.
       
    2. Scroll down and select Wi-Fi.

    1. Press the Home button to open the menu.
       
    2. Scroll and select Settings.
       
    3. Select Basic Settings
       
    4. Select Wi-Fi
       
  4. In the Wi-Fi menu, select Wi-Fi, then select On.
     
  5. Select Yes to reboot the phone.
     
  6. After the phone reboots, Wi-Fi is enabled. Follow the steps above to access the Wi-Fi menu again.
     
  7. Press the Scan softkey to scan for available networks.
     
  8. Highlight the desired network and press Select.
     
  9. Enter the Wi-Fi password into the phone.  Pressing Encoding will change the type of character entered.  To enter special characters, set the encoding to be either uppercase or lowercase letters and use 1, #, *, or 0.
     
  10. Push the More softkey and then push the Connect softkey.
     
  11. The phone will attempt to connect to the network.
     
  12. If the connection is successful, a Wi-Fi symbol will appear at the top of the screen.
     

Note: The network administrator can configure the regulatory domain for your location and radio frequency bands on which the wireless network operates. If not configured, the phone uses the Global regulatory domain and 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz default radio bands.
