Transferred Call Caller ID Settings

Default Transfer Settings

The caller ID behavior varies based on whether the transfer is a warm (attended) transfer or blind (cold) transfer.

Warm Transfer

Caller ID behavior for warm transfers cannot be changed.

When a warm transfer is initiated, the user receiving the call will see the name and extension (or phone number) of the person initiating the transfer.  Once the transfer is complete, the caller ID will update to the original caller.  This update is based on when the device refreshes its information; some devices may not immediately update unless a change is made to the call (i.e., placing the caller on hold).  For example:

Susan calls in with phone number (480) 555-1234.
Steve, the receptionist, answers the call.
Steve then warm transfers Susan to Andrea.
Andrea will initially see the caller ID show Steve 1000, his name, and extension.
After Steve advises Andrea of the nature of the call, he will complete the transfer and the caller ID update to show Susan (480) 555-1234.

Blind Transfer

By default, calls that are blind transferred will show the caller ID information of the original caller.  For example:

Susan calls in with phone number (480) 555-1234.
Steve, the receptionist, answers the call.
Steve then blind transfers Susan to Andrea.
Andrea will see the caller ID show Susan (480) 555-1234

You can submit a case to Nextiva support to request one of the following options:

  • Show the caller ID of the person transferring for any blind transfers OUTSIDE of your account
  • Show the caller ID of the person transferring for any blind transfers

Unlike warm transfers, where the caller ID changes after the transfer is complete, a blind transfer will never have the caller ID change.
