Unity - Services and Settings
Services and settings are adjusted by clicking on the settings button at the top of the Unity client. In the window that opens up, the services tab will control user services, while the settings tab will adjust the Unity client settings.
Services
NOTE: Some Services might not be available unless you have assigned the Enterprise license to the user.
Anonymous Call Rejection: Enable rejection of calls that come into your device as anonymous.
Call Forward Always: Enable all calls coming directly to your extension to be forwarded to another phone number or extension.
NOTE: This does not work for Call Groups or Call Centers.
Call Forward Busy: Enable all calls coming directly to your extension to be forwarded to another phone number or extension when you have Do not Disturb enabled.
NOTE: This does not work for Call Groups or Call Centers.
Call Forward No Answer: Enable all calls coming directly to your extension to be forwarded when you don’t answer your phone to another phone number or extension.
NOTE: This does not work for Call Groups or Call Centers.
Commpilot Express: When you start and close Nextiva Unity, what profile should be used based on your specifications below.
NOTE: This is not the same as setting an ACD state. Used to set predefined profiles automatically to apply forwarding rules based on predefined criteria.

- Available: In Office: Configure a preset profile for another phone number or extension to ring alongside your device and configure options if you are busy or don’t answer to either go to voicemail or send the call to another phone number or extension.
- Available: Out of Office: Configure a preset profile to send calls instantly to voicemail or forward calls to another phone number or extension. Also, configure an e-mail address to be used to send notifications of calls coming in during the time this profile is set.
- Busy: Configure a profile that will automatically send calls to voicemail, but configure special phone numbers or extensions to be forwarded to another phone number or extension. Also, configure an e-mail address to be used to send notifications of calls coming in during the time this profile is set.
- Unavailable: Configure a profile that will automatically send calls to voicemail, but configure special phone numbers or extensions to be forwarded to another phone number or extension. Also configure if calls are sent to voicemail, whether they should use your “Unavailable” (busy) greeting or your “no answer” greeting.
Do Not Disturb: Enable your device to be set as busy and send calls instantly to voicemail. Also contains an option to Ring Splash, indicating a ring to your device when a call comes in and follows your Do not Disturb setting.
External Calling Line ID Delivery: Enable to allow caller ID to display on calls coming into your phone from outside of your phone service.
NOTE: This is enabled by default.
Internal Calling Line ID Delivery: Enable to allow caller ID to display on calls coming into your phone from inside your phone service.
NOTE: This is enabled by default.
Simultaneous Ring: Enable to allow phone numbers or extensions that call your device directly to be added to a list of devices that should ring at the same time as your phone.
NOTE: This does not work for Call Groups or Call Centers.
Calling Line ID Delivery Blocking: Enable this to prevent your phone number from being displayed to the phone numbers you call out to.
Enhanced Call Logs: This allows you to change the number of contacts that are recorded in your Call Logs tab (default is set to 20). Also, change the number of retries if Nextiva Unity is having trouble reaching the Nextiva server (recommended to leave this at 3).
Nextiva Anywhere: This allows you to add numbers that will tie into the Nextiva system and will ring alongside your device. This is used to receive ringing from hunt groups to outside phone numbers, where normally simultaneous ring would not receive ringing from hunt groups to outside phone numbers. Also, you can enable alerting all locations for click-to-dial calls. If you click-to-dial from Nextiva Unity, it will also send the call to any of your Nextiva Anywhere numbers added.
Call Transfer:
- Enable Call Transfer Recall to allow calls transferred to other extensions to ring back to your device after a specified number of rings.
- Enable Busy Camp to allow you to hold a call against another person’s extension and specify the number of seconds it will take for the call to return to your device (the minimum number of seconds is 30, the maximum is 600).
- Enable diversion inhibitors to make sure the calls don’t follow forwarding options when you transfer calls to other extensions or when you conference.
- Enable or disable allowing warm transfers through Nextiva Unity.

Call Park Retrieve: Enable the allowance to retrieve parked calls. Set your settings to show when a call has been parked against your extension to be a Nextiva Unity Desktop Pop or a Windows balloon message.
Call Waiting: Enable or disable the ability to receive additional calls while already on the phone with another caller.
Directed Call Pickup With Barge-In: Play a tone to other users indicating that someone has joined their call and forced a barge in. If using the Directed Call Pickup with Barge-in and there is no call active on that contact, it will answer a call that is ringing on that contact.
Hoteling Guest: When hoteling is enabled is set up by your system administrator, this allows you to enable your guest access and choose another device to take over in your office that is set up as a Hoteling Host.
Remote Office: Enables another phone number to be able to call into your device to make outbound calls as your business while also sending any calls that come into your phone to the entered phone number. Also, set the options to allow remote office to turn itself on when opening Nextiva Unity or turn it off when closing.
Shared Call Appearance: This shows a list of devices your device is shared with and allows you to adjust your shared appearance settings.
- Alert all appearances for click-to-dial calls: Turn on to allow all shared devices to ring when you click to dial from Nextiva Unity.
- Allow call retrieve from another location: This allows you to take calls off of hold from another shared device after you place a call on hold on your current device in use.
- Multiple Call Arrangement: This allows you to make additional calls outbound or receive additional calls inbound when using other devices while your primary device is in use.
- Allow Bridging between locations: This allows another device to join an active call from one of the other shared devices by picking up the handset once a call is taking place on another device.
Voicemail: Enable or disable your voicemail box. Use unified Messaging (store voicemail on your phone, set by default) or use “Forward the voicemail via e-mail”. In unified messaging, you can turn on or off the phone message waiting indicator light (on by default) or you can show a voicemail tab next to your call log tab. Separately, you can e-mail notifications of new voicemails, e-mail a copy of the voicemail audio file, or transfer the call if the caller presses 0 to a specified extension or phone number. You can also turn on send all calls to voicemail, send all busy calls to voicemail (do not disturb) or send unanswered calls to voicemail (if no other forwarding takes place).
Settings
Appearance: Enable Nextiva Unity to show on top of all windows, show the missed calls count in the call log tab, or when minimized, place Nextiva Unity in the taskbar or system tray.
Skin: Change the color of Nextiva Unity.
Contact Search:
- Enable or disable include external (personal) contacts in all searches.
- Enable or disable show monitored users first when searching for contacts.
- Enable or disable always sort new search results by name.
- Enable or disable including the department name in search.
- Enable or disable clearing the search box when activated
- Enable or disable showing contact groups or showing contact search letters (one or the other)
- Enable or disable including contacts when the name starts with the search criteria or the name contains the search criteria.
Contact Display:
- Enable or disable showing call duration in the contact list.
- Enable or disable when you drag a call over a contact to allow the following: Transfer call to an extension, transfer to voicemail, transfer calls to mobile, warm transfer call to an extension, park call on extension, hold call, and link to the user.
- Choose a folder on your computer to store your call notes file created by Nextiva Unity.
- Enable or disable showing most searched on users by default and set a refresh timer to change the list.
Current Calls:
- Enable or disable resize the current call list to ensure all calls are visible.
- Enable or disable group waiting calls together.
- Enable or disable group queued calls together.
- Enable or disable double-click to retrieve a call on hold.
- Enable or disable display parked calls in the call list (calls that are not parked with the call park button).
- Enable or disable display camped calls in the call list (may go away if the target device’s voicemail picks up before it is supposed to recall).
- Enable or disable display notes column in the call list.
- When linking calls, allow Nextiva Unity to automatically transfer the call, prompt you to transfer the call, or indicate the call is good to transfer on the call list window.
- Enable or disable the hold duration in the call list.
- Enable or disable indicating when holds exceed a specified amount of time.
Transfer History: Enable or disable displaying transfer history in the call list, how many days Nextiva Unity should remember the transfer history (60 days maximum), and where the file should be stored on the computer that it uses to remember the history.
Clipboard Integration: Enable or disable Nextiva Unity prompting you to dial a number you cut or copy to your clipboard and to notify using the toast (desktop pop up) notification or using a Windows balloon.
Dialing rule: Specify a certain prefix to be dialed when you dial a specific number first. Useful for International calls you make often. For call log purposes, you can ignore this rule for incoming calls, use this rule for incoming calls, or reverse this rule for incoming calls.
Custom Directory Integration: Setup a custom LDAP or SQL directory.
Configuration: Specify an LDAP or SQL .xml file to load custom directories.
Outlook Integration:
- Enable or disable load contacts from public folders.
- Enable or disable load contacts from my private folders.
- Enable or disable use outlook caching for greater speed.
- Enable or disable including business name in the directory list.
- Select which outlook folders to display contacts from.
Browser Integration:
- Specify a URL to navigate to and load call details in for a website that you use to store customer information on (such as creating customer tickets).
- Enable or disable opening the URL/Website every time you answer a call that is either through a call center or not through a call center.
- Enable or disable opening the URL/Website every time you make an outbound call that is through a call center or not through a call center.
- Enable or disable using the browser user interface so you may keep your settings but prevent it from being used at a given time.
Desktop Integration:
- Enable or disable copying outside number to clipboard when a call comes in.
- Enable or disable writing the outside number to a file and where that file should be saved.
- Set remote number as the file name or use a static file name.
- Enable or disable using this setting every time you answer a call that is either through a call center or not through a call center.
- Enable or disable using this setting every time you make an outbound call that is through a call center or not through a call center.
Call Notification:
- Enable or disable showing the remote party phone number when receiving call notifications.
- Enable or disable override the contact name using the number.
- Enable or disable performing auto-answer when using click to dial.
- Enable or disable presenting a desktop pop up
- Enable or disable Auto-hiding Nextiva Unity when a call completes.
- Set Desktop Pop to show for a specified number of seconds (max 24 seconds).
Nextiva Unity Connect: Enable or disable allowing third-party applications to connect to Nextiva Unity.
Key Combinations: Specify key combinations that will be used to map to commands.
Commands: Add your key combination and give that key combination a function to use Nextiva Unity more efficiently with shortcuts.
Startup: Change which version of Unity you open by selecting a version in the drop-down provided. You can allow multiple instances of Nextiva unity, but do note that this feature is currently not supported and should be avoided at this time. You can also allow Nextiva Unity to always start in a minimized state or auto start Nextiva on operating system boot.
Update: Enable or disable allowing Nextiva Unity to update on its own. Change the frequency of how often Nextiva Unity checks for updates. You can also allow Nextiva Unity to alert you after an update or automatically restart after an update. Also, you can allow Unity to update automatically in a Terminal Server or Citrix environment or perform a manual update.
Instant Messaging & Presence:
- Enable or Disable sending IMs to offline users.
- Enable or Disable showing instant messages in the docked panel in Nextiva Unity.
- Enable or Disable always showing the docked panel.
- Enable or Disable use existing conversations for drag and drop calls.
- Enable or Disable playing a notification sound when receiving an IM.
- Enable or Disable showing a popup notification.
Logging: Enable or Disable logging instant message conversations. Also set whether to create a new file for each conversation, create a new file each day, or always use the same file. Set your log type as either HTML or CSV and specify the folder location your computer the logs should be saved in.
XMPP: Check your status to make sure you are online to communicate with other XMPP applications (Nextiva Agent, Nextiva App). Enable or disable automatically accepting subscription requests or automatically sending subscription requests (subscriptions are necessary for chat and presence in other applications). When contact is online in Nextiva IM&P and XMPP, you can use IM&P or XMPP only or use both.
NOTE: You may have to right-click on a user that is using a client that can be instant messaged to that is not Nextiva Unity and select Add XMPP Presence. This will send them a request to be added to a list for your user to be able to instant message them across applications. The other user that you select to add XMPP presence on will have to accept the presence request using their application.
Change password: Change the password used for the XMPP or Integrated Messaging application. This should only be changed by a system administrator's recommendation.
Security: Set it so after starting the application as an administrator, that only the administrator of the computer can edit Nextiva settings. Also set that if Nextiva Unity cannot load a template created, to continue loading Nextiva Unity upon startup or to shut down Nextiva unity after failure. Also, you can click “Create new user template” to upload a template to the Nextiva Unity cloud in which Nextiva can assist you in preparing a template for other users of the same application.
Language: Change language to a different language (English is set as default).
Network: Change the network settings that Nextiva Unity uses to connect to the Nextiva server.
NOTE: These details should never be changed unless instructed to do so by a system administrator.
Proxy: Set up an HTTP proxy to allow Nextiva Unity to bypass restricted internet settings. You can specify your server that runs your proxy and you can specify the authentication details that will allow you to use your proxy. This is something a system administrator would assist you in setting up if need be. Most usage of Nextiva Unity will not require a Proxy.
Authentication: Specify your Nextiva Login details to log in as another user. If using the Security setting, you can specify your administrator login details to log in as the admin to make changes to Nextiva Unity.
Change password: Change the password that you use to log in to Nextiva Unity and other Nextiva applications.
