What is the Chatbot Builder
Chatbot builder is a visual or low-code interface that allows users to create and manage automated conversational agents for messaging channels like websites and apps, typically through a live chat widget.
Create a Chatbot
- Once you are in NEXT Studio, select Chatbot from the left navigation panel.
- On this page, you will see all existing Chatbots. Select the blue Create button.
- Name the Chatbot and select the Source.
- Once you are on the Chatbot builder page, the Elements on the left-hand side will help you create your Chatbot. Search for a particular component using the search bar, or scroll through the list and expand different sections to find what you need.
- Hover over each Element to view what it can be used for.

- Drag and drop relevant Elements into the main section of the screen to begin building with them. Move each element around by dragging and dropping it.
- Use the search bar in the upper right corner of the screen to find a specific node within the Chatbot Builder. This search bar will only search what is currently on the main area of the Chatbot Builder page, where you are building out your Chatbot.
- Selecting the Enable AI toggle to the left of the search bar will give you help when building your chatbot.
- Use the Save button to save where you are at in your work before exiting the Chatbot Builder area.
- Use the Train Model button to teach the chatbot so it can begin to learn answers and refine its responses when talking to Agents or customers.
- Use the Link KB button to let the chatbot know which help articles it can pull answers from when interacting with Agents or customers.
- Use the Preview button to open up a new box on the right-hand side of the Chatbot builder screen to see what your Chatbot will look like once it is published. We recommend using this button frequently when building out your Chatbot. You will need to press the Preview button each time to refresh the preview window.
- Use the search bar in the upper right corner of the screen to find a specific node within the Chatbot Builder. This search bar will only search what is currently on the main area of the Chatbot Builder page, where you are building out your Chatbot.
- Once an Element is on the screen, select it to edit the node. The chosen element will have a blue box around it to indicate it is the one selected.
- Get an ID for a specific Element or node by hovering over it and selecting the i icon.
- Preview a specific Element or node by selecting the play icon, which will open the preview box on the right side of the screen for just that node.
- To delete a specific Element or node, hover over it, and the blue trash bin icon will appear. Select it to delete the node completely.

- Continue to edit your chatbot, using the Preview button in the upper right corner to check how it will look.
- Once you are done or if you need to take a break from building the Chatbot, select the gray Save button in the upper right-hand corner.
- When you choose to save it, it will ask if you want to publish it. This will not make it live on your website; it will only save it in the Chatbot area of NEXT Studio.
- To abandon all work done up until this point, select the gray back arrow in the upper left corner. The gray back arrow will revert the workflow to the last saved version of the design.

- Once it redirects you back to the Chatbot screen, under the Activated column, toggle your chatbot to off until you are ready to use it.
Viewing or Editing Existing Chatbots
- On this page, you will see all existing Chatbots. Scroll through to find the one you want to view or use the search bar. To view one in more detail, select the ellipses menu to the right of the name.
- From the dropdown, choose Edit chat flow to view it or edit it.
- You can now view the details of that specific function. You can also edit it from here. Use the information from Step 4 onward in the Create a Chatbot section above.
