What Is Porting?
Porting is the process of transferring your existing phone or fax number(s) from one provider to another. With Nextiva, you can keep your current number while enjoying the benefits of our reliable, business-ready communication platform.
What You’ll Need to Port Your Number
To make the porting process seamless, gather these details from your current provider. A Customer Service Record (CSR) is especially helpful because it confirms all information your numbers are under with the current carrier.
-
A recent bill or CSR – While not required, it’s highly recommended. You can usually download it from your provider’s online portal or request it from their support team.
-
Account Number – Typically found at the top of your bill or in your online account portal. This verifies ownership of the number(s) you want to transfer.
-
Transfer PIN or Porting PIN – Many carriers require this 4–6 digit code to approve the transfer. You can request it from your provider via their website, app, or customer service.
-
Billing Telephone Number (BTN) – The main number on your account, sometimes called the “primary line.” It may differ from the number you’re porting.
-
Company Name on the Account – The exact name listed on your account if it’s a business account.
-
Service Address – The physical address tied to the account (not a P.O. Box).
-
Authorized Signer – The person designated on the current provider’s account who can authorize the porting request.
